“The ultimate end of violence is to defeat the opponent. The ultimate end of nonviolence is to win the friendship of the opponent.” - Martin Luther King
This workshop is designed to empower people to speak to be heard, to listen to understand and to create friendly connection across differences.
NVC Certified Trainer Gary Baran and Central Oregon teacher Bryn Hazell will offer participants opportunities to clarify values and strategies, as well as to learn and practice communication skills that can transform relationships.
The workshop is a fundraiser for the Oregon Network for Compassionate Communication that will help us spread awareness and teaching of Nonviolent/Compassionate Communication throughout Oregon and is offered on a sliding scale.
To register, send your check (payable to ORNCC) to Oregon Network for Compassionate Communication (ORNCC), 1430 Willamette St., #4, Eugene, OR 97401. Please provide your email address (or phone number) and indicate that the check is for the April workshop.
I envision a world in which the needs of all people are honored, in which the abundant resources of our planet are both respected and also flow freely so as to reliably meet those needs, and in which people resolve their conflicts peacefully. I strive to live in harmony with the principles of NVC and to offer NVC training to the public and to those organizations and institutions that resonate with those principles. I also provide counseling and consulting services to individuals and groups, and help to contribute to the spread of NVC by serving as a member of the board of directors of the Oregon Network for Compassionate Communication. I have a special affinity with educators, having been a professor of philosophy for 35 years; with parents and mental health professionals, having been a marriage and family therapist for the same length of time--and a co-parent of two for over 25 years; and with those who are responsible for organizational leadership, having served as executive director of the Center for Nonviolent Communication for nearly 8 years. I am also especially eager to contribute to the work of social activists.
Bryn has been learning and sharing the Compassionate (Nonviolent) Communication skills created by Marshall Rosenberg since 2001. She is President of the Board of the Center for Compassionate Living (CCL) in Bend, a nonprofit that offers communication skills, workshops, classes and practice groups. Bryn enjoys sharing these skills at CCL, for local groups and organizations and at Deer Ridge Correctional Institution in Madras. She also serves on the board of the Oregon Network for Compassionate Communication (ORNCC) and is a founder of ORNCC.
