Flow of Support
Between ORNCC & Regional Teams
Distributed November 2004
This document is intended to
summarize and
clarify the spirit of collaboration we envision between ORNCC and Regional Teams. The suggested structure was developed with the highest dreams of spreading and supporting compassionate communication in all of our local communities, and making NVC a more sustainable movement in these areas.
What ORNCC offers to Regional Teams
ORNCC offers the following tools as a strategy for supporting regional volunteers. We hope these tools will immediately relieve regional team members of some of the anxiety and overwhelm of hosting workshops with both Marshall and other CNVC trainers, and will meet the needs for meaning and effectiveness that are often stunted by duplicating and re-creating efforts. We also hope these tools will support local NVC organizers in the ongoing development of a thriving NVC community.
Interactive Website
A reliable place for people to learn about local community events
Designated volunteers in each regional community easily add, edit, or delete listings for workshops, volunteer opportunities, events/offerings, and practice groups in their area. In addition, all communities will enjoy the benefit of online credit card registration for Marshall's workshops and other ORNCC sponsored events, as well as online donations for the statewide organization.
ORNCC Community Database
ORNCC will manage a statewide database of people who have either been to an NVC workshop or indicated interest in learning NVC, keeping them connected with regional NVC events and communities. The ORNCC State Coordinator will manage and update this community database for a variety of outreach purposes, including an annual mailing to promote Marshall Rosenberg.
Adding or updating database information:
Individuals add or update their own information on the database by completing the "Join our Community" form on the ORNCC website. When local teams host events and gather contact information, they can enter this information for others using the same method.
Monthly Statewide Email
The ORNCC State Coordinator sends email to subscribers once a month to alert them of upcoming events with certified CNVC trainers, to remind them to check the website for local learning opportunities, and to inspire people to continue learning NVC.
Promotion Toolkit
Regional teams can access a comprehensive promotion toolkit with tools they can easily adapt to promote ANY regional NVC workshop, in addition to tools specifically designed for Marshall's visits. Toolkits include a promotion plan (outlining the most effective promotion strategies), and a database of media contacts, targeted community contacts, and promotion opportunities (such as events for distributing flyers). See general toolkits and ORNCC specific tools
Workshop Coordination Toolkit
Regional teams can also access a toolkit to help coordinate the many details of Marshall's workshops. The toolkit includes credit card machines, posters, ORNCC banner, suggested announcements, ready-to-print registration forms, workshop packets/handouts, evaluation cards, volunteer name tags, and donation forms.
Statewide Promotion for Marshall Rosenberg
For Marshall's visits, ORNCC places ads and articles in periodicals and on websites that cover the whole state, and promote workshops within other NVC communities such as California and Washington. In addition, ORNCC supports identified regional media-relations objectives by serving as a key contact to Marshall's publicist and by helping to coordinate limited media events.
Educational Materials Ordering
The ORNCC State Coordinator will order at the best discount and send your team NVC educational materials to sell at events.
Financial Management
ORNCC process revenues (from books/materials sales and workshop registration from CNVC trainers) and expenses (workshop related) through the ORNCC bank account, which relieves regional teams of expenses and personal tax concerns. ORNCC also provides direction and formats for ongoing accounting.
ORNCC Sponsorship
ORNCC can officially sponsor workshops with certified trainers, which includes benefits of on-line registration and registration coordination/tracking, assistance with promotion, legal protection against participant lawsuits and much more. To learn more, see "ORNCC Sponsored Workshop" agreements.
What Regional Teams may offer to ORNCC
Regional Teams can choose to help ORNCC meet its needs for effectiveness, sustainability, legal safety, and responsiveness to the requests of volunteers in various areas of Oregon. We hope this collaboration will help to build and sustain a vibrant, thriving NVC community across regional boundaries.
Our Legal Requests
ORNCC is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. ORNCC invested significant time and money to gain this legal/tax status as a strategy to support the growth of NVC in Oregon, and we strongly want to protect this status. The ORNCC Board of Directors has two requests for local teams in relation to this:
- That anyone wanting to raise or spend money for, or in the name of ORNCC, consult and collaborate with the ORNCC Board of Directors to ensure that your actions comply with both our mission and legal structure.
- That local NVC community members who are active in their communities ensure that ORNCC and NVC are not tied to any type of political activity. For example, you might host an information booth at a peace demonstration, but we would not want teams to march with the ORNCC banner in the actual demonstration. In other words, we may provide information about NVC at any event, yet we do not want anything we do to appear as if we are advocating for any particular political or religious cause or ideology. This ultimately supports us in spreading NVC consciousness to as broad a community as possible.
Our requests regarding supporting your regional NVC community's needs
- Collaborate with ORNCC to plan and schedule workshops with Marshall Rosenberg and other NVC trainers.
- Coordinate and encourage the formation of practice groups and practice group leaders by providing information and support.
- Coordinate local stock and sales of NVC related books and materials. (At least Marshall's book)
- Fulfill the types of volunteer tasks detailed in Developing an Ongoing NVC Team, Organization, or Community (PDF), which we predict will provide your region with continuity and organizational structure. These roles include workshop scholarship coordinator, email query response, workshop event management, promotion, etc.
- Connection, Mourning, Celebration - put time, energy, love, and intention into your regional/local volunteer team to nurture the trust, effectiveness and sense of community amongst yourselves.
Our Request Regarding Specific Tasks
- Communication - communicate overall status, needs, and requests of your regional NVC community to the ORNCC State Coordinator.
- Promotion - promote your ORNCC community and Marshall's visit with assistance from the Promotion Toolkit. Collaborate with ORNCC Promotion Coordinator to refine promotion strategies and opportunities.
- Identify one person to continually update your regional community page on the ORNCC website, including regional listings of workshops, practice groups, volunteer opportunities and other events.
- Utilize ORNCC's bank account and simplified accounting processes for tracking and managing revenues and expenses from ORNCC sponsored workshops and materials sales. Provide receipts and information to ORNCC State Coordinator after each ORNCC sponsored workshop.
- Distribute "join our community" cards or "sign-up" lists at workshops and events to collect people's contact information. Enter this information into the ORNCC database on the Join our Community page of the website.
- Support the sustainability of ORNCC by requesting tax-deductible contributions to ORNCC! Distribute flyers, and invite people to make tax-deductible donations to ORNCC at workshops, practice groups, events, etc.
We thank you for reading this and for considering our requests. As the volunteer Board and Governing Council, we deeply appreciate your time, energy, and collaboration in helping to spread NVC!
